Assessment uses evidence gathered over time from student work, conversations and observations. The final grade for 2026–2027 is determined as follows:
| Component | Weight | How It Is Determined |
|---|---|---|
| Coursework throughout the course | 65% | Includes the culminating data-management investigation and other evidence gathered throughout the course. |
| Mandatory written final examination | 25% | Mandatory Grade 12 mathematics written final examination. |
| Attendance and participation | 10% | Based on meaningful attendance and participation; excused absences do not negatively affect this component. |
Assessment may include counting and probability problems, simulations, data-collection and sampling tasks, spreadsheets, graphing and statistical analysis, media-data critiques, tests, written interpretations, the culminating data-management investigation and the final written examination.
MDM4U develops numeracy, problem solving, information management, communication, research and technology skills relevant to university programs and careers in business, social sciences, health, data science, statistics, economics and public policy.
The course is especially valuable for programs requiring statistical literacy, quantitative analysis or data-driven decision making.
MDM4U — Mathematics of Data Management, Grade 12, University Preparation.
Functions, Grade 11, University Preparation (MCR3U), or Functions and Applications, Grade 11, University/College Preparation (MCF3M).
The course is worth 1.0 Ontario secondary school credit.
